I don’t usually read fae books, actually, this is the first book centered around fae that I’ve read, and I was not disappointed.
The Iron King is centered around an average girl named Megan Chase. At least, she thought she was average (don’t all protagonists at first?) One day she starts seeing weird things. Then she comes home to find out that her brother has been stolen and finds out about a whole other world. With the help of a friend, Megan ventures into Nevernever (the name bothered the heck out of me) to rescue her brother. Along the way she meets some… interesting people including Oberon, King of the Summer Court, Grim, a talking cat, and Ash, prince of the Winter Court and hellbent on murdering her best friend.
I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.
Synopsis:
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan’s life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she’s known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil, no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.
So like I said before, Puck is my favorite character, maybe it’s because we got to know him from the beginning, or maybe it’s because I just love his personality. Anyway, I know he doesn’t really have the same physical features as him, but as soon as I read about Puck, I instantly thought of him as Robbie Kay. Most likely because I was looking at a picture of him prior to reading the book, also, well his name is Robbie, and so is Puck’s. Plus Robbie Kay has that mischievous look to him that I think Puck would.
Highly recommend this book. 8/10 stars.
SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE IRON KING
Okay, so when she had that dream of being back in her house with Ethan I was like, Oh Crap! Oberon sent her back, luckily that wasn’t the case.
Puck’s return I was just like freaking out, like YES HE’S NO LONGER A RAVEN AND HE’S BAC K TO HELP.
It’s obvious that Puck likes Megan even though she doesn’t notice. I felt so bad for him, because I think it’s pretty obvious she’s going to choose Ash. Most of my notes are about Puck, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Ash and I even like him and Megan together, I just think that Puck is the best.
So when Puck shoved her behind him when Ash was at the end of the tunnel. auhfwsajkkjdscn the feels just came right on.
I was laughing so hard at the mention of Rowan and Mab, especially when it was like Rowan wants to get into his mother’s good graces. You’ll get that if you’ve read The Throne of Glass series. (BTW READ THAT IF YOU HAVEN’T)
Then when the Queen of Air and Darkness thing was mentioned, I was laughing too. And I know Cassie based the titles off something else, I just found the mention of it entertaining.
Aw when Puck was hurt about Megan not thinking he was enough and that she needed Ash, I felt so bad for him.
When they said, No fey or mortal could kill the Iron King I practically rolled my eyes, yeah she’s a mix, it’s not that hard to figure out.
Puck was shot, and then I just flipped. I kept thinking he’d show up at the Iron Court to save them but he didn’t :( I’m interested to see how he makes his re-enterance.
"So can I, this one," Ash growled, "is off limits."
Tell me that didn’t give you the feels.
Okay so let’s move on to Ash now, shall we? Black hair? Oh yes, I can definitely deal with him being a love interest. We all know I love the dark haired boys, especially when they are bad boys.
I thought that both Ash and Puck’s faerie powers were pretty damn awesome. Like, Puck can do tricks like multiply himself and cool stuff like that and Ash has ice power. It was always fun reading about them using their powers.
Like I said before, I do like Ash and Megan together, I just want Puck to be happy, too. So when Ash and Megan kissed I just auhdjrdushgurhwgiurw, but I thought their romance was a really quick one. Like I’ve said in other reviews, I hate the instalove feeling and Ash and Megan’s romance definitely had that instalove feel. I just wish they gave it a little more time before Ash is all, I can’t loose you, too. I mean, they were barely around each other for any time.
The chapter Ash’s Final Stand seriously freaked me out, luckily he didn’t actually die. I’m looking forward to seeing what Julie does in the next book.
